Travel town

Today we went to a birthday party at Ttravel Town in Griffith Park. It was sooo hot, but we had tons of fun. I was kind of on edge while we there, because there were so many bees, and Orion is allergic. Thankfully, I brought our little medi kit, complete with his epi pen. The kids had a blast doing birthday things (hitting the pinata, singing, playing games, and of course eating cake), and we had a blast walking around and looking at all the trains.It's crazy how huge they are, and you never really notice... until your standing next to a wheel bigger than you are!


And how we've lived in the area all our lives, been to Griffith Park every year since our kids were born (to see the christmas lights), and have never been to Travel Town.


So we piled into all the trains we were allowed in, and took tons of pictures! Well, mostly Daddy did, because I wore a dress and coming down from the trains would have made Travel Town X-rated lol.
The whole birthday party took the train ride together, too.


And that made all the kids happy!


I didn't want to post actual pictures of the party, because there were other children besides my own in them, and I just felt weird about that. The kids are already excited to go back, hopefully with some educational material in hand so we can really get the full effect of it all!

My Girl

My daughter, who I lovingly call Bunny (short for honey bunny) just turned 3 and had her first dance recital... all in the same weekend! She performed 2 days in a row, a Saturday and Sunday, and turned 3 that Monday. We didn't have her a party this year, because of economic reasons :( But it's okay because we had fun anyway.Saturday's performance was in the night, and I sat in the back and waited, while she performed (we had tickets to Sunday's performance). I heard our family screaming her name through the intercom in the back, and when she was done she came running out to me with a huge smile. Everyone said she did so well. On Sunday, we had a hard time finding parking, but once we were settled in our seats I got nervous. I recorded her dance, even though we weren't supposed to (but I didn't know that when I was recording). She did amazing for the youngest one in the group, and I'm so glad she got to perform with her cousin, and friend.

On Monday for her birthday, we had a few errands to run in the morning. After that we went to my in laws house so the kids can play with their cousins, watch Percy Jackson, and we ate pizza. I don't know where she got the idea, but she ended up in a pillowcase jumping around the house, lol. The kids had a blast! When we got home, I baked Bunny a little cake while the kids played outside. We bought her a giant dollhouse, which is almost as big as she is.


And my mom gave her money, so we bought her a tricycle with that.

Upside down

Yup, that's how my life feels right now. I know it's been a while since I've posted, but life happens, and just changed the way everything at our house is! Let me catch you up to speed a little, so I make more sense.

So since January here's what's been going on (but not necessarily in order). I got a huge order for recital costumes (that went horribly wrong), I just don't want to talk about that lol. My girly turned the big 3, which still bothers me because I was hoping to freeze her at this age forever. My girl had her first recital, and boy was I sitting there nervous as ever (like I was the one dancing), but she did fantastic! The husband got a new job, working for a local water company. We've been waiting for this position to open up for a while now, so now we feel like we can breathe a little more. Now that my hunny has his new job, we've decided to move next year back to our hometown, so I've been cleaning (more like decluttering and tossing out) everything like crazy (which makes my house look more like a disaster), that way when we move it'll be easy as pie!

In May I pulled the boys out of school, because of some serious stuff going on (it's a private matter, that just makes me sick to my stomach to think about). This is a big thing for us, because I just felt like my kids were no longer safe, and I just did not feel good about sending them there anymore. We've since made the decision to homeschool them, which I've thought about for the past few years anyway (just wasn't sure on how to go about it). Everything that's happened recently with our local public school, just gave me the push I needed to look up our options. I signed up for various meetup/homeschool/play groups, because you know the wives tale about homeschooled kids and how badly socialized they are! So as you can see, there's lot's of stuff that's been keeping me busy, and hopefully things will calm back down and I'll be able to get back to blogging regularly.

New Year's Resolutions?

Normally I'm not the type to do New Year's resolutions, but this year I think I'm going to. I know most people who do resolutions, probably have them all thought out by now, but I don't. I'm not really sure how they go, or how many your supposed to have. Are there rules to this sort of thing?


The part that I have figured out is that I'm separating them into categories. Yup, 2 categories for me! I have a personal, and a professional list. So I figure I'll post my personal list here on this blog, and my business/professional list on my other blog.

1. Try to get healthier. And by that I don't mean I'm trying to lose weight like most people do. I want to stop drinking so much pepsi, and junk food. I admit, I'm a sugar junkie. I'm not setting a good example for the babes, so I'm going to do better with that. I also need to take better care of myself, and actually go see a Dr. when something is wrong with me, and not "wait for it to go away or get better."

2. Make at least 85% of the girls clothes this year. Sure I love shopping for her, and dressing her up but... recycle, reduce, reuse! I really want to try to make most of her stuff from recycled/reclaimed fabric. I love the idea of reusing stuff, it's great!

3. Try to give more handmade gifts than store bought. I'm starting to hate consumerism, and what it's done to our society. I want to bring back handmade, and what it means to give something from the heart.


That's about all I've come up with so far. I might add to the list, but I'm pretty happy with it as is :) Let's have a great 2010!!!

Christmas List

Since Halloween I've become very unorganized with my sewing to do list. I figure I'll put my list here, and hopefully since it's here I'll be able to keep track of it better, and be able to scratch things off of it faster.

And of course I'm way behind on this list! And I think I might have left someone out, time to rack my brain!

Professing my love for Big K

Being a busy mom of 3, sometimes I get well..... BUSY! Last friday I picked up 2 layaways I had at my local Kmart. I didn't bother looking in the bags to make sure everything was there, just sort of assumed since I saw it all go in the box together when I put the layaway on. So yesterday morning, after I take my boys to school, I went to take inventory on what else we needed to get from our lists. Just my luck, a $40 toy was missing! I panicked, and my husband and I ransacked our garage and car looking for it. It then hit me that I didn't see the girl take it out of the box and put it in my bag since it was so large. Were not in any position (as I'm sure no one is), to be losing $40, and my husband said we were just out of luck. Being the optimist I am, I called Kmart to see if it might still be in layaway somewhere. Sadly it wasn't, but the girl I talked to on the phone talked to her manager for me. They grabbed the last toy off the shelf, and held it at the front for me!!

Now that's customer service! I'm so pleased lately with my shopping experiences with Kmart, from double coupons to this..... I'm rethinking where I do a majority of my shopping. Walmart is usually where I go for their low prices, but the employees are rude and never helpful. Kmart, you've earned my praise. I wrote a letter last night to corporate letting them know of my positive experience, and got a response this morning. I'm just happy!
